Every summer in Kingsville, Texas, kids built cars out of whatever they could find in their dad's garage and raced them down the longest hill anyone could locate in South Texas.
The Annual Summer Championship was sponsored by Miller Hardware & Feed — a Kingsville institution since 1948. Car #27 came off that hill with a crowd lining the fence and a checkered flag waiting at the bottom. The Backlot Supply Co. was there. So was everybody else in town.
This shirt was found in the back of the Miller Hardware stockroom during a 2018 estate sale. Still folded. Never worn. Some things are worth the wait.
