By the 14th Annual running of the Kingsville Soapbox Derby, this event had become something bigger than a race. It was a South Texas summer institution.

Three divisions. Stock. Super Stock. Outlaw. Car #21 came off that hill like the checkered flags were already waving. Sponsored by Mesquite Creek Supply Co. of Kingsville, Texas — because the local hardware store always showed up when the community needed it. Rain date was July 11, just in case South Texas had other plans. The event went on Saturday, July 12, 1975. It always did.

This shirt was recovered from a Kingsville storage unit along with event programs, a trophy, and one very dusty helmet. The archive does not ask questions.
